​Pharmacology - Quetiapine 
The action of quetiapine as an antipsychotic. Useful in treating both positive and negative symptoms.

Method of Operation 
There is a high probability that the competitive antagonism of dopamine D2 and 5HT2A receptors in the mesolimbic and mesocortical pathways is of significant importance. Histamine H1 receptors may be antagonistic, which may be the basis for the sedative effect.
Oral admin. Short half-life of six hours.

Use in Clinical Settings 
Both schizophrenia and other psychotic conditions are included. It is a bipolar disorder.

Adverse Effects 
Put on some weight. EPS and hyperprolactinemia of a minor nature. A sedative. Postural hypotension is caused by. Dry lips and constipation are both symptoms of antimuscarinic effects. Neuroleptic malignant syndrome occurs less frequently.
