Pharmacology-Sulfasalazine
Provides relief from the symptoms of active rheumatoid arthritis. In accordance with X-rays, the progression of the disease is slowed down.
Mode of Action
The salicylic acid moiety is responsible for the release, absorption, and anti-inflammatory effects that occur in the colon.
When administered orally, around 15% of the substance is absorbed via the gastrointestinal tract. Half life is between 6 and 16 hours.
Use in Clinical Settings
This includes rheumatoid arthritis, arthritis in children, and inflammatory bowel illness.
Adverse Effects
There was nausea and vomiting, headaches, and rashes. In rare cases, dyscrasias of the bone marrow and liver malfunction. Because of the negative effects of the medication, around one third of patients stop taking it.
