Pharmacology - Sumatriptan
The Function of Sumatriptan
Among the triptans, sumatriptan is the most common.

Method of Operation
At the 5-HT1B and 5-HT1D receptors, triptans are considered to be agonists. The activation of 5-HT1D receptors results in the constriction of blood vessels in the brain, while having a minimal impact on blood vessels in the brain's periphery. Additionally, they prevent the activation of the trigeminal nerve and the release of peptides.

Even though it is oral, its bioavailability is minimal. 1.5 hours is the half life. When a migraine is accompanied by vomiting, it is possible to administer orally.

Use in Clinical Settings
Migraine attack that is acute. In addition, sumatriptan is effective in treating cluster headaches.

Allergies and Reactions
