Anticonvulsant medication
Method of Operation
It is highly probable that glutamate is able to inhibit AMPA/kainate receptors; however, topiramate is also capable of blocking voltage-dependent Na+ channels and amplifying the activity of GABA on GABAA receptors.
Oral admin. There is some hepatic metabolism, but the majority of it is eliminated unaltered in urine.Twenty-one hours is the half life.
Use in Clinical Settings
Tonic-clonic seizures and partial seizures that are generalised. To treat migraines, it is used regularly.
Allergies and Reactions
There is a slowdown of the psychomotor process, incoordination of the motor system, memory impairment, paraesthesia, drowsiness, weariness, and disorientation. Loss of appetite and weight loss are also symptoms. An extremely rare form of eyesight loss. Acidosis of the metabolism!
