​Pharmacology - Zidovudine 
The activity of zidovudine is to block the HIV virus's reverse transcriptase.

Mode of Action 
The enzymes in the host cell phosphorylate zidovudine to make zidovudine trisphosphate, which blocks the viral DNA manufacturing process.
Administered orally or intravenously; the concentration in cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) is 65% of the blood level. The fake trisphosphate has a half-life of three hours. There will probably be pushback. This risk can be mitigated by taking the medication alongside other antiretrovirals.
Application in Clinical Practice
Infection with the human immunodeficiency virus with additional substances. Mitigates infection rather than eliminating it. 

Precautions to Take 
Consequences of long-term use include: myopathy, rashes, fever, gastrointestinal distress, blood dyscrasias, and a flu-like syndrome.
