• Bipolar patients will frequently present with depression, but routine treatment with antidepressant medications may be detrimental in this group.
• Elderly patients: frequently coexists with dementia
• Hypothyroidism
• Major organ system disease (e.g., cardiovascular, liver, renal, neuronal diseases) with depressive symptoms
• Neurosyphilis
