KembaraXtra-Psychology - axon reflex
An axon reflex explains the skin’s triple response after scratching: a red line appears quickly, then a surrounding flare, then a pale weal. Pain receptors send impulses not only orthodromically toward the CNS but also antidromically into neighbouring branches; endings release substance P, which dilates arteries to create the flare and also stimulates mast cells to release histamine, producing fluid accumulation that forms the weal.
