Bárány nystagmus, also known as caloric nystagmus, is a reflexive pattern of involuntary eye movements elicited by stimulating the vestibular system through the introduction of warm or cold water or air into the ear canal. The temperature change alters fluid movement within the semicircular canals, producing predictable eye movements toward or away from the stimulated side. Observation of these movements provides valuable diagnostic information about vestibular and brainstem function.
