The Bárány test is a clinical assessment of vestibular function in which the ears are alternately irrigated with warm and cold stimuli. The resulting direction and strength of nystagmus are used to evaluate the integrity of the semicircular canals and associated neural pathways. The test remains an important tool in diagnosing balance disorders and vestibular dysfunction.
