KembaraXtra-Psychology – Basilect
A basilect is the least prestigious or most divergent variety of a language within a speech community, typically positioned at the lowest end of a linguistic continuum that may also include mesolect and acrolect forms. Basilectal speech often retains features closer to creole or nonstandard origins, particularly in postcolonial societies where linguistic stratification reflects social hierarchy. The concept is important in sociolinguistics for understanding language variation, identity, and power dynamics within multilingual communities.
