An analeptic is a substance that acts as a restorative or stimulant, used especially to revive consciousness following anaesthesia or sedation. It may increase central nervous system activity, raising alertness and respiration. Clinically, analeptics can counteract drug-induced depression of the nervous system.
The term may also function as an adjective describing substances or interventions that restore vitality.
