A compound similar to tyrosine that binds to the enzyme tyrosine hydroxylase, inhibiting its ability to convert tyrosine into dopa. This results in reduced production of catecholamines such as dopamine, adrenaline (epinephrine), and noradrenaline (norepinephrine). Commonly abbreviated as AMPT
