Psychology Terms - Abaissement du niveau mental
In analytical psychology, this refers to a diminished level of focus and attention, along with a relaxation of inhibitions and restrictions, wherein unexpected information may surface from the *unconscious (2). Although it normally happens on its own, it can be purposefully promoted to get ready for *active imagination. The phrase was taken from his master, French psychologist and neurologist Pierre Janet (1859–1947), by Carl Gustav Jung (1875–1961). [Literally, "reduction of mental level" in French]
