Adaptive Control of Thought is an updated iteration of a network model of information processing initially proposed in 1976 by Canadian-born American psychologist John R(obert) Anderson (born 1947). It comprises two separate long-term memory stores: (a) declarative memory, represented by a semantic network of interconnected concepts denoted by nodes, encompassing declarative knowledge, which constitutes the active component of the declarative memory system known as working memory; and (b) procedural memory, represented by a production system, containing the system's procedural knowledge.
