Psychology Terms – adjustment disorders
Adjustment disorders are a category of trauma- and stressor-related disorders in DSM-5, characterized by the emergence of clinically significant emotional or behavioral symptoms in response to a specific psychosocial stressor (such as the end of a romantic relationship, significant business challenges, marital issues, a natural disaster, failure to achieve a crucial goal, or unemployment), resulting in greater distress than typically anticipated from the stressor and considerable impairment in social, occupational, or academic functioning.
