An emotion or subjectively experienced sensation, including happiness, sadness, fear, or rage. Blunted affect refers to a markedly diminished emotional manifestation. Flat affect refers to the absence or near absence of emotional expression, also known as affective flattening. Inappropriate affect, or incongruity of affect, refers to a dissonance between emotional expression and the subject of one's speech or thoughts. Labile affect denotes instability or fluctuation of emotions, while restricted or constricted affect signifies a reduction in the breadth of emotional expression.
