Psychology Terms - agenesis of the corpus callosum
A uncommon neurological condition, readily identifiable through brain imaging, with a frequency ranging from 0.5 to 70 per 10,000 births, characterized by the partial or complete absence of the corpus callosum at birth. In the absence of further abnormalities, the associated disconnection syndrome may be minor; nevertheless, when other cerebral abnormalities are present, the illness may be accompanied with mental retardation, seizures, spasms, and hydrocephalus.
