KembaraXtra – Travel Terms: ABTAC
The ABTA Travel Agents Certificate (ABTAC) is a national examination offered at two levels, covering much of the underpinning knowledge expected of a travel clerk working in a leisure-based UK travel agency after one year’s experience (Level 1) or two years’ experience (Level 2). The entry specifies that ABTAC excludes scheduled air reservations, fares, and ticketing; these are covered instead through QCF air units (Qualifications Credit Framework) at two levels. The syllabus is stated to be carefully aligned with relevant leisure travel QCF units. The entry also notes a separate two-level examination series for business travel, run by the Guild of Business Travel Agents (GBTA) in conjunction with the City and Guilds of London Institute (C&GLI). The entry includes website references for City and Guilds and for ABTA-recommended Training for Travel (TFT) as well as TTC Training
