From October 2003 the US required comprehensive traveller data in advance for international air arrivals, including sending PNR details shortly after departure. While machine-readable passports provide much data, additional details such as home residence and US address are also required, and from 26 October 2004 travellers from certain visa-waiver countries needed machine-readable passports and were subject to fingerprints and photos on entry; the entry directs readers to CAPPS.
