Botanical Terms - abacá (Manila hemp) The strongest of the hard, natural fibres. It is taken from the *pseudostems of edible banana related Musa textilis (see MUSA). Native to the Philippines, it is mostly grown there and is used to manufacture strong, unique ropes that can withstand moisture, salt water, and fresh water (e.g. for tea-bags).
