a soil with a *pH below 7.0. There are recognized levels of acidity in soil. When the reaction is less than pH 5.0, the soil is considered "very acid." Less than pH 4.5 is extremely acidic; 4.5–5.0 is very strongly acidic; 5.1–5.5 is moderately acidic; 5.6–6.0 is medium acidic; and 6.1–6.5 is mildly acidic are the five standard ranges of soil acidity listed by the *USDA.
