Botanical Terms - Adoxaceae
(order Dipsacales) A family comprising 2 genera and 3 *species of obscure affinities; *monotypic Adoxa moschatellina (moschatel), is of global distribution in northern-hemisphere, cool temperate woodlands. It is a herb 5–10 cm tall, with *ternate leaves and a terminal inflorescence of 4 outward- and 1 upward-facing flowers which are 5- or (in the terminal flower) 4-lobed and light green; the *ovary is *inferior. The fruit is a *drupe. In the 2017 APG classification the Adoxaceae are included in the family *Viburnaceae.
