KembaraXtra–Computer Terms – 16-bit

Sixteen-bit architecture refers to systems or operations that process information in 16-bit units. This measurement defines the size of the data chunks the hardware can manipulate at one time as well as, in some cases, the amount of memory that can be addressed directly. Sixteen-bit systems represented a transitional phase between earlier 8-bit computers and the more powerful 32-bit and 64-bit systems that followed, offering increased processing capabilities and more responsive software.
