A 5.25-inch floppy disk is a removable magnetic storage medium used extensively in early IBM-compatible and Macintosh systems. The disk consists of a flexible polyester film coated with magnetic material and enclosed in a soft plastic jacket with a large center hole that fits onto a drive spindle. Depending on density and format, it can store from several hundred kilobytes to over one megabyte of data.
