AppleTalk is a networking system developed by Apple to allow Macintosh computers and other compatible devices to communicate and share resources within a local area network. Designed to be simple and inexpensive, AppleTalk enables computers to exchange data, access shared printers, and connect to file servers without requiring complex configuration. The network architecture uses a layered set of communication protocols similar in concept to the ISO/OSI networking model and transmits information in structured packets called frames. AppleTalk networks can be connected to other AppleTalk networks using devices known as bridges, and they can also connect to different types of networks through gateways, allowing communication across various networking technologies.
