An autonomous agent is a software program or robotic entity capable of operating independently in environments that may be complex or unpredictable. Such agents are designed to make decisions and perform tasks without direct human control, often based on predefined goals or learned behaviors. Autonomous agents can interact with other agents, gather and process information, and carry out various automated actions. They are widely used in fields such as computer games, interactive media, information retrieval and filtering systems, user interface design, electronic commerce, automated vehicle navigation, spacecraft control, and industrial automation. Because of their ability to perform intelligent actions independently, autonomous agents are often referred to as intelligent agents or simply agents.
