AutoPlay is a feature introduced in Windows 9x and later operating systems that enables a computer to automatically run or interact with a CD-ROM when it is inserted into the drive. When a disc is placed in the drive, the operating system checks for a file named AUTORUN.INF on the disc. If this file exists, Windows reads it and follows the instructions contained within it. These instructions typically launch an installation program or start an application stored on the disc. If an audio CD is inserted instead of a software disc, the system automatically opens the CD Player program and begins playback.
