A B channel, short for bearer channel, is a communication channel used in Integrated Services Digital Network connections to carry user data such as voice, video, or digital information. Each B channel typically supports a transmission rate of 64 kilobits per second and functions as the primary pathway for transferring actual communication data between devices.
In ISDN configurations, the number of B channels available depends on the type of interface used. A Basic Rate Interface connection usually provides two B channels along with a separate channel used for control and signaling information. A Primary Rate Interface connection provides a much larger number of B channels, allowing higher data capacity and supporting multiple simultaneous communications.
