Back-lit or backlit describes a display or surface that has a light source positioned behind it in order to illuminate what is shown on the surface. This light source is often a lamp, LED, or another type of internal lighting component placed behind a translucent panel. The light shines through the panel so that text, symbols, or images become clearly visible. Backlighting is commonly used in devices such as computer monitors, mobile phones, keyboards, and control panels to improve visibility, especially in low-light environments.
