A baseband network is a type of local area network in which digital signals travel along a single transmission channel that connects multiple computers or devices. The network typically uses communication media such as coaxial cable or twisted-pair wiring. In a baseband network, only one device can transmit data at a time, and other devices must wait until the channel becomes available before sending their messages.
Data in a baseband network is transmitted in the form of packets that include information about the source and destination systems as well as the actual message data. Although techniques such as time-division multiplexing can allow multiple devices to share the communication channel more efficiently, the network is generally designed for relatively short distances and moderate speeds.
