BCC stands for blind courtesy copy and is a feature in e-mail systems that allows a sender to include additional recipients without revealing their addresses to the other recipients of the message. When an address is placed in the BCC field, that recipient receives the message, but their address does not appear in the message header visible to others.


This feature is commonly used to protect privacy or to discreetly send copies of messages to additional individuals. For example, a sender may include supervisors or record-keeping addresses in the BCC field without notifying the main recipients. Because BCC recipients remain hidden from the visible recipient list, it helps maintain confidentiality while distributing copies of an e-mail message.
