In networking terminology, a black hole refers to a location within a computer network where messages or data disappear without explanation. Information sent to this location fails to reach its destination and cannot be recovered or traced easily.
The name is derived from the astronomical phenomenon known as a black hole, where gravitational forces are so strong that even light cannot escape. In computing, the term may also be used informally to describe projects or tasks that consume large amounts of time and resources without producing meaningful results.
