Differential Diagnosis of Anaphylaxis
•hereditary angioedema, cord urticaria, idiopathic urticaria, mastocytosis, serum sickness, idiopathic capillary leak syndrome, sulfite exposure, scombroid poisoning (tuna, bluefish, mackerel) • Pulmonary: laryngeal edema, epiglottitis, foreign body aspiration, pulmonary embolus, asphyxiation, hyperventilation • Psychiatric: vocal cord dysfunction syndrome, Munchausen’s disease, panic attack/globus hystericus • Endocrine: hypoglycemia, pheochromocytoma, carcinoid syndrome, catamenial (progesterone-induced anaphylaxis) • CNS: vasovagal reaction, cerebrovascular accident (CVA), seizure disorder, drug overdose • Cardiovascular: myocardial infarction, arrhythmia, hypovolemic shock, cardiac arrest
