Infectious Diseases and Microbiology - Hemorrhagic Fever ( Yellow Fever Virus)
The flavivirus known as yellow fever (YF) causes hemorrhagic fever syndrome. Mosquitoes carry the YF virus and spread it through their bites. The United States is devoid of YF, whereas it is widespread in South America and Africa.
Symptoms of hemorrhagic fever, which is caused by the clinical YF virus, include jaundice, high body temperature, headache, myalgia, black vomit, further bleeding, and shock. There is a mortality rate of 20% to 50%.

After a mosquito bites a host, the YF virus enters the bloodstream and multiplies, eventually settling on monocyte-macrophage cells in the liver. Infection control relies on antibody and cell-mediated immunity. Virus-specific IgM antibodies can be detected to confirm YF virus infection.Infection with the YF virus does not currently have a specific therapy. You can protect yourself from the YF virus using a live, attenuated vaccine that is quite effective. One key way to avoid YF is by mosquito vector management.
