Pharmacology - Benzotropine
Antiparkinsonian medication

Method of Operation
in the striatum, reduces the muscarinic activities of acetylcholine. It brings back the 'balance' between the actions of the dopaminergic and cholinergic systems. It is likely that the action is on M1 receptors. To be taken orally. A lengthy half life of thirty-six hours. For Trihexyphenidyl three to four hours is the half life.

Use in Clinical Settings
A medication used in the treatment of Parkinson's disease. Although it is significantly less effective than medications that increase dopaminergic transmission, it proves to be useful in the treatment of tremors. Utilized in conjunction with other treatments and in the treatment of Parkinsonism caused by medication (antipsychotic) use.

Allergies and Reactions
Dry mouth, inhibition of peristalsis, elevated intraocular pressure (which should be avoided in narrow-angle glaucoma), blurred vision, urine retention, tachycardia, and other symptoms are some of the effects that can occur as a result of parasympathetic block.
Confusion and hallucinations are symptoms.
