Pharmacology - Ergometrine
Ergometrine Action Restricts the uterus that is in a relaxed state. possesses a vasoconstrictor capacity. Method of Operation Perhaps it acts partially on alpha-adrenoceptors and partially on 5-HT receptors; this is not fully known. Rapid onset of effect when administered intravenously, intramuscularly, or orally. 3–6 hours in length. Use in clinical settings for the treatment of postpartum hemorrhage. Adverse Effects GIT disturbances, an increase in blood pressure and, in certain circumstances, angina (caused by vasoconstriction), headaches, dizziness, and dysrhythmias are among symptoms that may be experienced.
