Pharmacology - Ipratropium
Bronchodilation through the inhibition of acetylcholine-mediated bronchoconstriction and mucus secretion is the action of ipratropium. In the late period, there is no effect. Mode of Action The action of acetylcholine on muscarinic receptors is competitively inhibited by this compound. Inhaled, the effect lasts for three to five hours after exposure.Beneficial for those who are unable to tolerate beta 2-agonists. Use in Clinical Settings When used in conjunction with beta-2 agonists and corticosteroids for the treatment of asthma; when used for chronic obstructive pulmonary disease. Negative Effects Are Rare.
