Pharmacology - Vigabatrin
An anticonvulsant

Method of Operation
The concentration of GABA in the nerve terminal is increased when there is irreversible inhibition of GABA transaminase in GABAergic nerves. It is likely that the concentration of GABA in synapses experiences an increase as a result of the GABA transporter operating in reverse. The release that is mediated by action potentials is likewise amplified.

Oral admin. Mostly eliminated in its original form. The half-life of the medication is ten hours, although the drug's activity is prolonged by irreversible enzyme inhibition.

Use in Clinical Settings
While working in conjunction with other anticonvulsants.

Adverse Effects
A sedative. There is exhaustion. Having children who are hyperactive. A large percentage of patients may develop visual field abnormalities as a result of prolonged usage of the medication.
